Stand Up Paddleboarding

Although some people see Stand Up Paddleboarding (SUP) as a new thing its history dates back to the 1950’s and surfers using a single ended blade to paddle out to the surf break. Although this appears to be mainly in the United States is it is also reported that at about the same time SUP was seen in Newquay.

In the last 10 years SUP has had a big revival and expansion. There are different designs of board and these are lighter and more manoeuvrable leading to SUPs having much broader appeal and use than previously. Some are used for touring, some for racing and some for fishing.
