A consultation is underway on a proposed closure of an area of land on the Ardnamurchan Peninsula for 12 months (from spring 2016-2017). The consultation document is available here on the Highland Council website regarding restricting the public's right of access under the Land Reform Act to the beaches at Gorteneorn, for a period of one year for the purposes of making a documentary film.
The SCA has been in contact with Highland Council Planning Department and been informed that the Highland Planning committee agreed to temporaily suspend Access Rights as proposed in the submission. The main issue is that the 'Singing Sands' beach, a fabulous area, which the film people can't use - will be kept open to the public. The SCA has also been assured that there won't be any 'heavy-handed' security if paddlers (or dinghy sailors) come ashore.
The proposal still needs to be ratified by the Scottish Government so it is not to late for individuals to object to these restrictions.
