The Highland Council Planning Committee met on Wednesday 20th February to determine the Etive Hydro applications. The Planning Officer had already recommended that the schemes be approved. The outcome of the decision was that all seven schemes were approved.
The SCA has been in dialogue with the developers of the scheme, Dickins Hydro Resources Ltd, for the last two years or so to understand the detail and impact of the proposals, to provide detailed information about our sport and to convey the importance of these tributaries to whitewater paddlesports to UK paddlers.
Many hours have been spent by members of the Access & Environment Policy Committee working with the developer and local agencies to try and safeguard paddle sport opportunities in Glen Etive with the developer in order to secure a package of mitigation measures should the schemes be approved. Dialogue between all parties will continue to ensure the best potential outcome for paddlesports now that the planning has been approved.
