Ieuan James - Young Athlete of the Year

Congratulations to Ieuan James winning the Sir Peter Heatly Trophy for Young Athlete of the Year 2017 at the Team Scotland Scottish Sports Awards on 21 September 2017 at the EICC - awarded for the most meritorious international performance by a young Scottish Athlete or Team under the age of 20, at an international senior or age group event. The athlete must have been eligible to represent Scotland/GB over the performance period.

Ieuan has had a rapid progression to the top of Canoe Sprint after first competing internationally in 2016. In June he made a massive breakthrough, winning gold in the K1 200m event at the European Junior Championships in Belgrade.  He then then went on to claim Britain’s first World Junior canoe sprint title for 22 years with gold in the K1 200m event at the World Junior Championships in Pitesti, Bulgaria.

Ieuan was up against very worthy nominees of Maria Lyle, for Para-athletics and Scott McLay for Swimming and our congratulations go to those two athletes for their nominations for this award.
