This year the winner of “Club of the Year 2014”was jointly awarded to Nairn Kayak Club and Breadalbane Canoe Club. Both clubs offer the opportunity to either compete in Sprint and marathon in the case of Nairn Kayak Club or Slalom in the case of Breadalbane Canoe Club. Along with the competitive aspect, each club also offers a recreational side. The clubs have looked forward with strong committees to put sustainable plans of funding and coaching in place to ensure the clubs futures.
Over the summer Nairn Kayak club offers a variety of activities with a Tuesday night sea session, Wednesday night river park play and Thursday night sprint \ marathon training. This year for the first time they have started a junior racing section with the purchase of new junior equipment. This will help maintain the success that the club has had throughout the year in competition. Over the winter they continue their activities with weekend river trips, weekend sea session and Thursday night pool sessions
Breadalbane Canoe Club has a very active slalom pathway leading paddlers from introduction to kayaking through to the SCA Performance Programme. They have several paddlers made it through to compete with the junior GB squad. In order to support this programme Breadalbane have recently employed a talent coach to facilitate the development of paddlers and coaches alike. The recreational paddlers enjoy river trips and are encouraged through their 1 and 2 star awards with a variety of canoes, kayaks and sit on tops available to try.
As well as the accolade of being Club of the Year 2014 each club receives free affiliation for the coming year. Congratulations to both clubs!
