River Spey update

Some weeks ago, paddlers were  made aware of a single tree reported  as a hazard on the lower section of the Spey below Fochabers. The tree in question blocked a channel on this braided section of the river but was in a less-paddled, side-channel. Now, following the sudden spate conditions of last week, this particular tree has been ‘moved on’. However, following recent  floods, the lower section of the Spey below Fochabers  downstream of the Quarry Pool but particularly below the Garmouth Viaduct,  the final bridge before reaching Spey Bay, has completely been ‘redesigned’. It would appear that, after the viaduct, the best option is to go either straight ahead or right (definitely not left). All channels have their  challenges and great care is required in paddling this section of the Spey.
