River Tay: Smeaton's Bridge

Tue 14 May 2019

Also known as Perth Bridge. Beneath the 2nd arch on the right, a large portion of light fitting has fallen down from the bridge.  The metal support arms holding the fittings in place, has completely rusted through. Consequently, there is a high risk that further parts of the lighting infrastructure will fall down at some stage.  These are large, heavy objects and would cause a serious injury or death if they hit anybody when falling. The council have been informed and recommend that all paddlers avoid the area until the bridge can be made safe. Repairs are due to start in early July, with an expected completion end August. The works are planned to be carried out overnight from 7pm-7am Mon-Friday (possible weekends).
