We value the hard work of those who contribute to Paddlesports in Scotland and to recognise these people and their time, effort enthusiasm for the sport we have established a number of annual awards to recognise individuals' dedication. We have just hosted our 2018 Recognition Award Celebrations at the National Sports Training Centre Inverclyde where we announced the deserving winners.
Club of the Year
This award acknowledges the fantastic work being carried out in clubs across Scotland. The winner is selected by considering what the club does, how well the club is organised, connected, promoted and its plans for the future.
The recipient of the Club of the Year is Edinburgh Kayak Club. Edinburgh Kayak Club is open, friendly and active. The club caters to everyone it can, including disabled paddlers and LGBT groups. There is an excellent male / female ratio, not just among paddlers but among the coaches and leaders as well. The club calendar is filled with trips, coached sessions and social events. But most of all the club is a strong community - following the recent highly publicised loss of one of their core coaches during a club trip, members have been actively turning out to support those who lead and organise trips and sessions. Members at all stages of their paddling, whether they joined recently or have been on the committee for years, are made to feel part of a community of people, not just a club of paddlers.
