Volunteer Coach of the Year Robert Jackson

Tue 20 November 2018

We value the hard work of those who contribute to Paddlesports in Scotland and to recognise these people and their time, effort enthusiasm for the sport we have established a number of annual awards to recognise individuals' dedication. We have just hosted our 2018 Recognition Award Celebrations at the National Sports Training Centre Inverclyde where we announced the deserving winners.

Volunteer Coach of the Year
This award is for coaches who give up their free time (and who don’t coach for a living) – working within schools, clubs, youth groups, volunteer groups etc. They pass on skills and knowledge, and encourage others to have a go and improve their paddling.

The recipient of the Volunteer Coach of the Year Award is Robert Jackson (Posthumously).  Robert was known throughout the paddling community in Edinburgh and beyond for his selfless offering of his time to teach and support other paddlers. Through EKC he injected a fun spirit into all the coaching sessions, especially for the children. No young paddler was immune to his enthusiasm and playful spirit, and he was endlessly energetic and patient. Robert dedicated most of his free time to encouraging everyone to paddle and spent so much time coaching for EKC at pool sessions, Pinkston, river trips etc. He inspired the kids so much and brought on children to a competent level very quickly, leaving them with such an enthusiasm for the sport.
