Winner of the Willing Hands Quaich: Sarah McIlroy
Sarah is Fife Canoeing Activity Group’s Club Secretary, as well as ensuring the club and its management committee runs smoothly. Sarah regularly represents the club in the Lochore Management Hub and in discussions with the Local Authority and other bodies in managing the facilities. Sarah is behind numerous club activities such as funding applications to sourcing and procuring equipment from new boats to replacement wetsuits and helmets.
She organises regular trips and this summer helped setup a new Sea Kayak "Annex" on the shores of the Forth at Kirkcaldy. The club runs a programme of twice-weekly pool sessions throughout the winter and Sarah draws up the programme, organises activities, invites attendees and press-gangs coaches. Sarah is central to developing and running the Youngsters programme. She initiated a dedicated "Young Paddlers" loch and pool programme and introduced PaddlePower to the club’s qualifications portfolio.
Sarah also manages community outreach activities, engaging the club with Lochore Meadows Outdoor Education Centre's community programme and events, and through an annual programme of canoe and kayak proficiency badge sessions for local Cub Scouts. She recruits and supports new paddlers to the club helping them find their feet, make new friends and start learning their chosen discipline. Sarah is key to many whole-club activities such as Family Fun Days and Barbeques for paddlers and their families and friends. She is at the heart of just about everything the club does and is a constant motivator for paddlers, volunteers and coaches alike.
