SCA Recognition Awards 2017 - Club of the Year

Club of the Year

This award is to acknowledge the fantastic  work being carried out in canoe and kayak clubs across Scotland. This award is open to all SCA affiliated clubs and carries the winners prize of a year’s free club affiliation fee. The winner will be selected by considering what the club does, how well the club is organised, connected, promoted and it’s plans for the future.

Winner of Club of the Year: Edinburgh Kayak Club

Edinburgh Kayak Club has, over the last few years, seen a significant increase in the number of volunteer coaches and assistants, which has enabled more paddlers to take up paddling. The training sessions offer opportunities for new paddlers which is only made possible through the work of volunteer members. This club works closely with Edinburgh Leisure, particularly regarding their pool sessions, and club coaches have provided training for pool lifeguards. The club is also represented on the steering group looking at development of the local paddling/coaching venue at Musselburgh Lagoons. Members vary hugely in age and experience, representing a broad spectrum of people and the club has put together a development plan to work towards. Recently the committee have put a lot of hard work into getting a new shed built, ensuring the club has suitable facilities for the long term.
