Subsidised Courses for Club Coaches & Leaders

The SCA is pleased to offer financial support to clubs and their volunteers through a series of centrally organised courses where club coaches and leaders can attend at subsidised rates. 

In addition, we have a funding opportunity for clubs who wish to organise their own Foundation Safety and Rescue Training or 3 star training/assessment course to support candidates progressing to British Canoeing Level 1 or Level 2 coaching awards. Funding is allocated on a first come first served basis. Find out more here. 

Subsidised courses for 2017 are announced as follows:

White Water Safety & Rescue

21st & 22nd Oct: River Teith - Calum McNicol
4th & 5th Nov: Grandtully - George Fell
11th & 12th Nov: Spey/Findhorn - Jim Gibson

White Water Kayak Leader Award (previously 4*)

7th & 8th Oct: Training - Tay / Teith / Orchy - Matt Brook
4th & 5th Nov: Training - Findhorn - Steve Mackinnon & Jim Gibson 
2nd & 3rd Dec: Assessment - Tay area - George Fell & Mike Spencer 

Sea Kayak Leader Award (previously 4*)

9th & 10th Sept: Training - Largs - Calum McNicol 
18th & 19th Nov: Training - Black Isle TBC - Donald Thomson
25th & 26th Nov: Assessment - Fort William - Claire Knifton & Matt Haydock

Canoe Leader Award (previously 4*)

16th & 17th Sept: Training - Callander - Sam Dean
30th Sept & 1st Oct: Training - Tay - Claire Knifton 
28th & 29th Oct: Assessment - Spey / Loch Inch - Sam Dean & Matt Haydock 


The above courses are open to SCA Full/Junior Individual Members who are volunteers in an SCA Affiliated Club. Courses are priced at £50 each per person (including the BC candidate fees for WWSR). Book a place online via Self Service or contact the SCA office on 0131 317 7314. We will also require a short supporting statement from the club secretary/chair/coaching officer outlining the benefit this training/award will bring to the club. Please note:

Equipment is not normally provided so participants are required to bring their own kit. Please contact the office if this is not possible and we can try to help. 

If you wish to attend multiple courses of the same type e.g. 2 x Sea Leader Training please book to attend your first choice and contact to be put on the waitlist for the second course. If there is space, you will be able to attend the second course, however as spaces are strictly limited priority will be given to those only attending one course. We reserve the right to prioritise spaces to clubs who have most need and to refuse bookings from several members of the same club if the course is oversubscribed.
