Vacancy - SCA Development Manager

We are seeking a passionate and experienced Development Manager to join our dynamic team. You will play a central role in driving forward a portfolio of exciting paddlesport development projects and initiatives.

The role:

  • Lead the delivery of qualification standardisation: Conduct in-person and remote assessments to ensure the quality of paddlesport coaching and instruction.
  • Bring your expertise: Be an experienced British Canoeing Awarding Body tutor/assessor with additional knowledge in areas like clubs, access, environment, EDI (Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion), and sports development. Experience in the commercial paddlesport sector and safeguarding in sport is a plus.
  • Collaborate and empower: Work alongside staff, volunteers, and other development managers to grow the sport and membership, aligning with our Strategic Plan.
  • Support and connect: Lead the British Canoeing Delivery Partner scheme in Scotland, supporting over 30 businesses in making paddlesport accessible to all.
  • Communication is key: Be an excellent communicator who can create clear, engaging information for various audiences through different channels.
  • Thrive in a team environment: Be a positive and enthusiastic team player, highly organised, and adept at handling a demanding workload.


The SCA: As the Governing Body for paddlesport in Scotland, the SCA is responsible for the development, regulation and administration of all aspects of this diverse sport. We pride ourselves on being well run and extremely innovative, doing all this through effective teamwork between our volunteers, staff, board, course providers and clubs. We are committed to leveraging technology and strategic partnerships to change lives through paddlesport.


Flexible working: This is a full-time (37 hours/week) position, and we are open to discussing flexible and part-time options.

Salary: Circa £32k + 5% pension

Mental Health First Aid Training - 20th May 2024 at Glenmore Lodge AWARD IN FIRST AID FOR MENTAL HEALTH AT SCQF LEVEL 5 (1 day course) We are delighted to be able to offer you the opportunity to complete Mental Health First Aid Training at Glenmore Lodge Monday 20th May 0830 - 1730. This will be run by Noush Duffy and Mo Samson - two experienced paddlesport coaches, Mental Health First Aid trainers and part of the Paddle Scotland Equality Groups. This Paddle Scotland course is being offered at the subsidised rate of £75 (inc. lunch and refreshments for the day). Bookings close 5 May . We are passionate about supporting paddlesport coaches to increase knowledge in this area so you can better support the people you work with. We'd love it if you could attend.
