River Ettrick - Blocked by Tree

Aug 30, 2023

Multiple tree blocks on the river Ettrick, near Ettrickbridge Village.

The SCA has received report of a hazard on the river Ettrick.

The river right channel directly under the bridge in Ettrickbridge village is completely blocked by fallen trees. The river left channel is currently clear and safe to paddle but be sure to check before getting on by looking over the bridge (in Ettrickbridge village) when you do the shuttle.

About half a mile downstream of Ettrickbridge there is a river-wide fallen tree. It is on a straight area of gentle flow (easy to see). It is reported that paddlers were able to paddle under/through it, when the the water level was low - 0.9 on the SEPA gauge. Any higher flows will not be possible.

Please share this information with any paddlers that might be in the area.

We will update as we know more.
